AlcoholNorth Dakota leads the nation in binge drinking among people age 12 to 20. North Dakota had 32.5 percent of its citizens 12 to 20 years of age who binge drink, whereas the lowest state, Utah had 13.7 percent, according to the most recent Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration poll. Down from 25 percent, 19 percent of students reported having their first drink before the age of 13. Down more than 5 percent, 33.8 percent of high school students report having engaged in drinking in the last 30 days. 49 percent of high school students reported having had at least one drink of alcohol in the last 30 days. North Dakota is number one in youth who in the last 30 days have ridden one or more times with someone who had been drinking; who drove one or more times when they had been drinking; who drank alcohol one or more times; and who had five or more drinks in a row on one or more occasions.
